About me and my work

I am a second year Fine Art student at Lincoln University currently exploring the painting world and creating my own art!

My recent works have stemmed from a past painful memory from the past involving the death of a loved one and the way in which they died, this is a challenge in dealing with emotions and creating meaningful work for myself, not necessarily for others to understand and appreciate but for myself to comprehend and justify what happened. I feel that it essential for me to know and understand how it occurred in the first place, by looking at the science behind infection, disease and bacterial cells has enabled me to see the beauty of their appearance when artificial dyes are added; it’s the irony of what the images actually look like under the microscope that intrigues me, the unattractive transparent cells. Bright colours have become dull and insincere with my persistent need to express attractiveness to the devastating bacteria MRSA, colours are too pleasing to the eye and divert away from the content of an image.

Using paint and other materials as my weapon to attack the bacteria head on, I am creating my own defence mechanism with bare hands to attack the issue’s I carry with me. This allows me to take frustration out at the canvas and create vigorous textures and harsh tones, the feel of the paint going on is therapeutic and the feeling of it finished is something of self accomplishment, like I have won the battle for that one moment until it returns again to destroy.

To create these paintings I have to compete with myself and better myself to come up with a new more aggressive way to deal with the subject matter, the need to do better than the bacteria and prove myself to it is a large battle of which the end is unforeseeable.
